So, we got a see-haw(?) to new Sukhothai, and bought a ticket to Phintalunok, (43b fan/aircon each) and arrived around 6pm, the train doesn’t leave until after midnight, so we checked our bags at the left luggage room (20b/item) and took a stroll around the town.
The first thing we found was the busy night market, where we ate pork scratchings, sushi and BBQ chicken drumsticks, then wondered down the road to investigate further. The most obvious difference from other places we have been was the lack of European faces and signs in English. We stumble across the night bazaar which stretched along the riverfront. It was really nice not to be hassled by sellers, as their main customers are not tourists.
We both bought almost random stuff (USB iphone charger, elephant pants, Icecream cone), and headed across the river on search of the only two bars listed in LP.
We found neither, but found ‘The terrace bar’ – with air con, and friendly staff we sat down for a drink, and when I looked around, all of the clientele were male, and the waitresses very young and pretty — it felt strange, but was probably not! The tips on four square are interesting to translate…
We walked back to the station, and notices there was a VIP room not being used, so being off season, I chanced it, and we were allowed to use it — score!
Currently waiting for the train that is going to be at least 30 mins late 🙂
