This morning started with a taxi ride to Penang port to get a ferry to Butterworth which is on the mainland, to then get a bus down to Lumut to then get another ferry to Pangkor followed by another taxi ride this time in a candy pink mini bus to the other side of Pangkor Island called Teluk Nipah. There we managed to find a cheap room in Nazri Nipah Camp, I feel we were lucky to get a room here as because of the holidays most places were full!
Pulau Pangkor was described in the lonely planet as beautiful, low key, white sand paradise. So when we got there and saw hundreds of people, many awful concrete buildings on the beach front and rubbish everywhere we couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. Once settled in we did our usual and explored a little there isn’t much on this side of the Island but mostly what there was was crappy shops for tourists. The choice of places to eat wasn’t amazing either. There were a few places with bbq’s so we chose one of those and had bbq fish which was ok. There wasn’t any bars on this Island either so the only place really to sit back and relax was at our guest house which was nice as it had many hammocks to chill out in. The next day we hired motorbike and did a circuit of the Island which only took an hour we then found a quite beach called turtle bay which once had turtles but not anymore! It was a nice quite beach but you still had boats coming round from the other beaches stopping looking and waving then continuing on! We left around lunch time to search for food and ended up at coral beach which again is nice but so many boats, jets ski’s and rubbish that it spoilt it little. We stayed for awhile to work on our tans and returned the following day to do the same, read, swim and sunbathe. We swam out to one of the small Islands to have a look around and saw a couple of little octopus. Unfortunately I can’t say the food was particularly nice here and the amount of rubbish on the beaches turns you off from saying there nice.
Next stop Kuala Lumper, dare say I was happy to be moving on, the fact I managed to talk Matt into booking a place to stay helped as we wouldn’t have to search when we got there I just hope it’s a nice place we booked!
