7th – 11th Nov – Pulau Langkawi (Malaysia)

This morning we had to be at immigration for 9 which took 2 seconds them we had to wait until 10.30 for the ferry so what else was there to do apart from a foot massage! Lovely start to the day. The ferry was nice and hardly anybody on it, we came into the port at Kuah which is Langkawi’s main town we then got a taxi to Pantai Cenang which is the main area for tourists. After a long tiring search for a cheap but nice place to stay we finally settled on the Rainbow Lodge, which again turned out to be one of the cheapest nicest places. After sorting ourselves out and cooling down as it appeared to be a lot hotter here or we just happened to arrive on a particular hot day, we went to explore and found a great place for dinner, we had Indian and it was so cheap and so good! Next day we hired a motorbike and explored further afield we came across the cable car which we went up and it gave us a lovely view of Langkawi, we then went to waterfall close by and went for a lovely cold dip, the only trouble was by the time we had walked back to the bike we were just as hot again! We stopped for lunch and continued to explore the north west of the Island. We found a nice beach before we saw the rain clouds coming so we headed back and managed to get to and arts and craft shop before the rain came, it was a lovely shop and we had to refrain ourselves from buying anything. That evening we decided to have Mexican food which wasn’t as good as the previous nights dinner. Then we booked a mangrove tour for the following day which took us to bat caves, crocodile cave (no crocodiles though!), fish farm, eagle watching, lunch on a floating restaurant and of course mangrove trees oh and monkeys and a quite secluded beach. It was a lovely day and we met an Irish girl Pamela who lives in London who we later met for dinner and the day after we spent the day with her at her expensive hotel with an amazing swimming pool, so we sat for the day working on our tans before the rain came again! We also managed to pop back to the nice craft shop to purchase a few bits before we left. The next day we could only get on the 17.15 ferry to Penang so we hired the bike again and explored a little more. We then got a taxi to the port and were soon on our way to the next Island Penang. We had originally wanted to go back to the Perithian Island but it’s currently close due to the monsoon season.
