28th – 30th Oct – Koh Lanta

So we arrived into Lanta by Ferry, on board were various touts telling you about places to stay. We were approached by a lady telling us she had cheap bungalows on the beach and free taxi from and return to the port, sounded good so we agreed to go and look. When we got there they weren’t quite a she sold it to us as the bungalows on the beach were expensive and the cheaper ones across the road. We stayed anyway in the cheaper option as there was still a nice beach which had a restaurant and a few bars on. Later after a little exploring we found we had a good deal so we stayed put.

The first afternoon we explored the island by motorbike, Lanta is bigger than Phi Phi but less populated and quieter. We also looked into some dive schools to see which was the cheapest. The following morning we booked a dive for the following day it was cheaper than Phi Phi! The rest of the day we spent our first day just relaxing on the beach and stayed there until we had watch a beautiful sunset. We didn’t have to go far for food as our restaurant and the one next door offered good food for a fair price.
The next day we were picked up at 7.30 for our diving trip, breakfast and lunch was provided and on both dives the visibility was good. Our dive instructor was a local guy called Sonny, we were put in groups of four, on board there were around 20 people not including instructors and staff but they did separate us well so there wasn’t too many divers at the same point. On the second dive we ended with looking in a large cavern known as the cathedral which was pretty amazing. After our dives we returned back and spent the afternoon relaxing on the beach again – oh it’s such a hard life!!!
The following day we booked a longtail boat to an even more secluded island called Koh Ngai.
