There was a tout on the boat, who seemed a little slimy, but was nice enough and promised to find us cheap accommodation. We humoured him and ended up booking for two nights at the Bantan Bay Bungalows (500b/night) again expensive, but better than many of the prices quoted in the LP, and on a lovely bay, well out of reach of the beautiful but crowded and loud Tonsai Town (literally Tourist Town). When the long boat dropped us off it was good to see that there are not many people around, and that a few tour groups had moored up for snorkelling, very promising, since we are keen to finally get some diving done, and if there’s nice snorkel spots just off the beach, there must be good dive spots nearby too! We are happy with the room, it’s basic but what we expected. I think we could have negotiated a better rate ourselves, it’s a 300-350 baht hut in my opinion, but at least we saved 150b each on the long tail taxi ride (free pickup! Update: it turns out if we hadn’t availed of the free pick-up the cheeky taxi boat captains charge 800b to get around the corner to Runtee Bay). There at some better hut specimens on the same beach, so we might explore them if we plan to stay longer than two nights.
