It didn’t take long to find a guest house as there are many near where the slow boat docks, we found a reasonable priced one and soon headed out for food. We found the night market and food market and ate a good all you can eat buffet style stall that cost under £1, meat cost a little more but it was certainly worth it! I’m really enjoying fresh BBQ fish.
The next day we walked around looking at various temples and booked ourselves on a trip to a water fall, we paid far too much and the driver didn’t really give us enough time, but it was still a lovely afternoon. We ate at the cheap food stall again as the price was just too good not too. Later on we went to the hive bar to meet up with some other guys to charter a boat for the next day, whilst waiting for them we got chatting to 3 people from Slovakia that had cycled from there and are cycling to Australia they were very interesting and inspiring. Later on we met the others whom we booked a boat for the next day for cave exploring, waterfall and fishing. There were 11 in total going on the trip and it worked out at about £5 each so not too bad. After a few beers we decided to continue on to another bar where Matt somehow ended up playing volleyball and on his first hit hit the ball over the wall costing him a fine, it was very amusing.
The following day we met at 9 and were soon on our way to the caves, it was a long way up then a long way down in the cave where it was stifling hot, in the caves they kept Buddhas statues that were too old to stay out on show so kind of a buddha grave.
We continued down the river to a small village where our boat driver had arranged a lift to the waterfall. It was amazing and great to swim in and we were the only people there. After a good swim and climbing and jumping we headed back to the small village where we enjoyed lunch. After saying goodbye to the locals we headed back to our boat, but unfortunately the weather had turned and we couldn’t head back up the river, the rain and wind came and a few crazy people including Matt decided it wasn’t going to stop them fishing, so they stood patiently waiting but caught nothing, as the local fisherman stood laughing and catching fish with there nets. Once the rain stopped we headed back and of course had dinner at the cheap food stall. The rain continued in the evening so we soon headed back to our room and prepare ourselves for the next stop Vang Vieng.
