7th/8th Oct – Moving on to Sukhothai

Well again we didn’t manage to get an early start (we’re getting lazy) but we got the 9.44 train to Phitsanulok arriving late of course, followed by a tuk tuk to the bus station and then a very old rickety bus to Sukhothai. The journey was only men’t to be an hour but took a little more over 2 but it was quiet good fun on such an old bus!

We decided to go to Sukhothai as the historical park recommended in the lonely planet sounded interesting. Once there we headed to the Old City guest house also recommend in the guide, it had a nice pleasant room for 300 baht/£6ish which is the cheapest so far. Once dumping our bags we went and got a nice cold drink then hired bikes again to explore. It wasn’t long before bed time and in this area the bars/food places seemed to close early which we didn’t mind as it has been a long few days so far!

We managed to get up at 8 this morning after a long night of very heavy rain (Matt was worried that we might even get flooded but we were ok) we headed for breakfast then hopped on our bikes to explore the historical park, it was lovely. Very quiet as its off season and Matt got some lovely pictures which we hope to upload soon! After our lunch we were feeling a little tired and hot so we took to a local Thai massage place were we both had the best so far foot massage which cost a total of 300 baht/£6ish for both of us for an hour, wouldn’t get that anywhere in England/Ireland! We soon realised after that we were both a little pink from this mornings cycle so decided to get an earlier bus back to Phitsanulok ready to get the night train tonight at midnight, which turn out to be a bit expensive as it cost nearly 1300 baht so £26 but it does mean that we don’t have to pay for a nights accommodation.
