This morning we had planned to get up early and head to Ayuthaya but we snoozed a little too long and ended up getting the 10am train, a little after 2 hours we arrived! We headed for the area with the most guest houses and bars. After looking in 3 places we found a room for 400 baht roughly £8 a night, it was ok but too close to the bar as live music was playing at night and it didn’t help that we had already been to that bar and had one too many! That afternoon we headed to their local floating market, wasn’t quiet what I had in mind as it was mostly permanent buildings that happen to be on water, I was hoping for boats floating around like what you see in the books, still we have plenty of time so hopefully we will get to see a proper floating market! Whilst there Matt decided he wanted to try the fish foot massage and considering I love my feet being tickled and massaged I was surprised that I couldn’t stand my feet being eaten by fish!! After a few attempts of putting my feet in and me squealing and Matt laughing at me I gave up, poor fish anyway, it can’t be good for them can it?
The following day we hired bikes and explored the Island of Ayuthaya (it’s called the Island as it is surround by a river) we went to the national museum lots of wats/temples, one even had a crypt which Matt went and explored whilst I of course kept guard at the top for Matt’s safety (not because I was too afraid to go down in case it was full of spiders or other such things honest!!). During the day we decided to stay another night as we couldn’t get the night train to Chaing Mai as it was fully booked for the next to nights 🙁 so we stayed in a lovely place recommended by a guy called Stuart we met in the pub the previous night, it was called the Baan Lotus run and owned by a really kind local woman who was in her 70s and was born on the site of the guest house, she was very helpful and the room only cost £7 a night! After a nice evening at the local night market and a head and shoulder massage we decided that tomorrow we would head up to Sukhoti by train and bus in the morning.
